In hip dysplasia the socket does not completely cover the femoral head. In children this is sometimes called clicky hips. Most people with dysplasia are born with this condition. Dysplasia can result in pain, hip instability and early osteoarthritis. In less severe cases the hip capsule or labrum can be repaired and tightened. Often the deformity can be corrected with an osteotomy. In severe cases, late presentations and in patients with osteoarthritis a hip replacement may be the only option.
