Injection Therapy for Pain Relief. In general, three options are available.
1]. Corticosteroid Injections: Cortisone shots are the standard and have stood the test of time. They are usually indicated with acute and severe pain or as an interim solution before knee replacement.
2]. Hyaluronic Acid: Acts as a lubricant and oils the knee. Does not work for everyone but evidence suggests, it provides similar pain relief to cortisone.
3]. Platelet-Rich Plasma: The new kid on the block. A blood sample is centrifuged and the plasma injection. Studies have shown that it is quite good in early knee osteoarthritis.
